Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesB FutureB-
The Bears did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

The Pat Bryant selection is the head-turner. The Bears reached 43 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

Getting Brown where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
Good price on Ashton Jeanty in the 10th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick39 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker at Round 2, Pick 7 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick42 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Somehow Nick Emmanwori was still sitting there in No. 42, and they pounced on premier safety value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick72 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson in the 72nd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick110 Rnd4 Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick148 Rnd5 Tyler Baron
They paid up for Tyler Baron at pick No. 148 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick186 Rnd6 Logan Brown
Logan Brown in pick 186 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick233 Rnd7 John Williams
A wild overpay on John Williams in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick240 Rnd7 Robert Longerbeam
The board had Robert Longerbeam higher than slot 240, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
