Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureD
The Patriots fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B.

Nobody else had Jordan Travis anywhere near No. 137. The Patriots did, by 35 spots, and that gap is the whole story. The bottom line is a respectable B.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The Ford pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In pick No. 3 they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick34 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
A tidy little value on Adonai Mitchell in No. 34, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick39 Rnd2 Graham Barton
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 7: Graham Barton for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick40 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan in the 40th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick72 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
By-the-book stuff, Mike Sainristil at pick 72 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick111 Rnd4 Maason Smith
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Maason Smith. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick137 Rnd5 Jordan Travis
They reached a country mile for Jordan Travis at the 137th pick, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick183 Rnd6 Jordan Jefferson
Jordan Jefferson at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick193 Rnd6 Erick All
Erick All in No. 193 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick231 Rnd7 Jaylan Ford
Circle this one: Jaylan Ford at the 231st overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
