Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B-
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Cowboys lost the trade table, and the B- tells the story.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Alijah Huzzie got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at Round 7, Pick 31. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

Every board in the league had Thornton Jr. lower, and that gap is the story. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick44 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in pick 44 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick45 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
They will replay Jalon Walker at slot 45 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick76 Rnd3 Kaleb Johnson
The board fumbled Kaleb Johnson all the way to slot 76, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick149 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A big swing on Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 149, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick171 Rnd5 Seth McLaughlin
A reasonable price with a little left over, Seth McLaughlin in the 171st overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick174 Rnd5 Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley in Round 5, Pick 36 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick189 Rnd6 Caleb Rogers
Caleb Rogers at the 189th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick204 Rnd6 Upton Stout
A slide stopped in the Round 6 slot, with Upton Stout worth more than the price. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick211 Rnd6 Tahj Brooks
The board had Tahj Brooks higher than pick 211, and the running back fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Pick239 Rnd7 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
They paid sticker price for Jamon Dumas-Johnson in No. 239, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick247 Rnd7 Alijah Huzzie
Alijah Huzzie at pick 247 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
