No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Giants. The Giants went off the board in a big way for Dominic Zvada, 62 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
However the rest shakes out, Wheatley at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Spencer Fano
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick103
Rnd4
Zakee Wheatley
Circle this one: Zakee Wheatley at pick No. 103 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick116
Rnd4
Deion Burks
Deion Burks at slot 116 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick142
Rnd5
DJ McKinney
Nice patience on DJ McKinney, who had no business lasting to pick 142. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick183
Rnd6
Oscar Delp
They paid a round early for Oscar Delp in Round 6, Pick 4, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick191
Rnd6
Lee Hunter
The board had cheaper options than Lee Hunter at No. 191, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick195
Rnd6
Raylen Wilson
Raylen Wilson in Round 6, Pick 16 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick228
Rnd7
Dominic Zvada
A wild overpay on Dominic Zvada in the 228th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
