Chicity DRAFTING FOR THEBears

Draft Grade — Bears

FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Bears, and a B to prove it. The Bears bet big and early on Alfred Collins, 66 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
On value alone, Bernard makes the weekend a net positive. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick37
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Booker at pick 37, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick46
Rnd2
Clay Webb
Clay Webb at slot 46 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick52
Rnd2
Jonah Savaiinaea
Jonah Savaiinaea in Round 2, Pick 20 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick77
Rnd3
Kevin Winston Jr.
They paid up for Kevin Winston Jr. at the 77th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick84
Rnd3
Josh Simmons
They read the board right and Josh Simmons was the payoff at pick No. 84. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick149
Rnd5
Aireontae Ersery
You do not let an offensive lineman like Aireontae Ersery reach pick No. 149 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick201
Rnd6
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at Round 6, Pick 26 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick245
Rnd7
Germie Bernard
Germie Bernard at No. 245 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Pick256
Rnd7
Dontay Corleone
A big swing on Dontay Corleone at the 256th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
