Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for Washington: B. You could see the war room lean forward. Malik Washington at the Round 4 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting Irving proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Kool-Aid McKinstry
In pick 27 they get an island corner. More want than need.
Pick34
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
They paid a round early for J.J. McCarthy in slot 34, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick35
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tyler Guyton at No. 35 is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick66
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
They will replay Roman Wilson at Round 3, Pick 2 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick68
Rnd3
Patrick Paul
By-the-book stuff, Patrick Paul at the 68th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick71
Rnd3
Xavier Worthy
They let Xavier Worthy come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick79
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
They paid up for Bucky Irving at the 79th pick when waiting would have done the job. It fills a real need, too.
Pick90
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette in pick No. 90 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick122
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Value with a capital V on Braelon Allen in the 122nd pick, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick132
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
A reach on Tommy Eichenberg in slot 132; the board had better options right there. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick136
Rnd4
Malik Washington
Malik Washington in No. 136 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick182
Rnd6
Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten at pick 182 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick214
Rnd6
Myles Harden
The board fumbled Myles Harden all the way to pick No. 214, and they scooped it up. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
