A Yank on the Footy DRAFTING FOR THEBrowns
Draft Selections

Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB+
A solid, sensible weekend for the Browns: B. You can draft well and still miss the point. The Browns did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to edge rusher, which was the need that mattered most. No fireworks, but a solid B.
However the rest shakes out, Brailsford at that price is a win they earned. The cost of the Rodriguez reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Francis Mauigoa
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick31
Rnd1
Denzel Boston
In the 31st overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick46
Rnd2
Jayden Maiava
Jayden Maiava at No. 46 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick47
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
No edge and no loss on Olaivavega Ioane in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick79
Rnd3
Ian Strong
Ian Strong at the 79th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick117
Rnd4
Xavier Scott
A clean, defensible pick in slot 117 with a little surplus value in Xavier Scott. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick145
Rnd5
Parker Brailsford
The board had Parker Brailsford higher than pick No. 145, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick146
Rnd5
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Ar'maj Reed-Adams in pick 146 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick153
Rnd5
Jacob Rodriguez
A reach on Jacob Rodriguez in Round 5, Pick 13; the board had better options right there. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick241
Rnd7
Shamar Easter
A reasonable price with a little left over, Shamar Easter in slot 241. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
