Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureF
Nobody dealt better than the Steelers this weekend: B-.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Steelers spent pick No. 163 on Zion Logue, a name most had 110 spots down the list.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will answer for taking offensive lineman early while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots went begging.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
In pick No. 20 they get a ballhawk on the outside. A real need, handled.
Pick21 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In the 21st pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick53 Rnd2 Byron Murphy II
They did well to land Byron Murphy II in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick54 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jackson Powers-Johnson at offensive lineman with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots open.
Pick55 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at Round 2, Pick 23, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick121 Rnd4 Max Melton
Max Melton at the 121st overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick123 Rnd4 James Williams
James Williams at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick163 Rnd5 Zion Logue
Zion Logue in slot 163 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick242 Rnd7 DeMonte Capehart
A real head-scratcher, DeMonte Capehart in pick 242 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
