Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Bears robbed the room for Fitzgerald. Final grade: B.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Ryan Fitzgerald got past him. The Bears do not have to explain a thing at the Round 7 slot. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Will Johnson
In pick 10 they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 7, with Kenneth Grant worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick41 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
They let Omarion Hampton come to them and pounced at slot 41. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick72 Rnd3 Jack Bech
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jack Bech. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick147 Rnd5 Jackson Slater
Jackson Slater at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick193 Rnd6 Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson in the 193rd pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick233 Rnd7 Ryan Fitzgerald
Circle this one: Ryan Fitzgerald at the 233rd overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick240 Rnd7 Hunter Wohler
A tidy little value on Hunter Wohler in No. 240, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
