0987 DRAFTING FOR THEJets
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Jets
Overall
B-
ValueC-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Jets bet the future on Allar. The board says B-. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Jets took Noah Thomas at the 143rd overall pick, roughly 94 spots before his name belonged.
So much rides on Drew Allar that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Job largely done: quarterback settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Drew Allar
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a franchise quarterback, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Germie Bernard
A premium they did not need to pay, Germie Bernard a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick68
Rnd3
Harold Perkins Jr.
Harold Perkins Jr. in pick No. 68 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick104
Rnd4
Zane Durant
They reached a country mile for Zane Durant at No. 104, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick139
Rnd5
DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell in the 139th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick143
Rnd5
Noah Thomas
Noah Thomas at pick 143 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick182
Rnd6
Jamari Lyons
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jamari Lyons in Round 6, Pick 6, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick197
Rnd6
Dasan McCullough
The board had Dasan McCullough higher than the 197th pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick210
Rnd6
Jaylon Braxton
Jaylon Braxton slipping to pick No. 210 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick251
Rnd7
Ty Thompson
Ty Thompson in pick 251 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick253
Rnd7
Courtland Ford
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Courtland Ford. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
