Arcadiuz DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B
ValueA
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Bolden should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B. The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: KJ Bolden, the No. 16 name on the board, in slot 85. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Jeremiah Smith
In pick No. 20 they get a home-run threat at receiver, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick51
Rnd2
Dylan Stewart
Taking Dylan Stewart in No. 51 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick85
Rnd3
KJ Bolden
Somehow KJ Bolden was still sitting there in slot 85, and they pounced on premier safety value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick121
Rnd4
Devan Thompkins
Devan Thompkins in the 121st pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick166
Rnd5
Sahir West
They took Sahir West at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick180
Rnd6
Whit Weeks
Whit Weeks at pick 180 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick185
Rnd6
Brody Foley
You do not let a tight end like Brody Foley reach the 185th overall pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick209
Rnd6
Desmeal Leigh
Circle this one: Desmeal Leigh at Round 6, Pick 30 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick251
Rnd7
Malachi Breland
The board fumbled Malachi Breland all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick257
Rnd7
Tre'Quon Fegans
They robbed the room for Tre'Quon Fegans here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
