Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Commanders a B.

There is reaching, and then there is Christian Haynes at the 40th pick. The Commanders jumped the board by 34 and dared it to prove them wrong.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Joe Alt
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick27 Rnd1 Bralen Trice
Bralen Trice at No. 27 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick35 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
Value with a capital V on Keon Coleman in pick 35, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick36 Rnd2 Tyler Guyton
They took Tyler Guyton at par in the 36th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick40 Rnd2 Christian Haynes
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Christian Haynes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick67 Rnd3 Blake Corum
A straight-up fair deal on Blake Corum at the 67th pick, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick101 Rnd4 Sedrick Van Pran
They read the board right and Sedrick Van Pran was the payoff at pick 101. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick103 Rnd4 Malik Washington
A reach on Malik Washington in Round 4, Pick 3; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick105 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
They paid sticker price for Khyree Jackson in the 105th overall pick, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick138 Rnd5 Jordan Travis
No edge and no loss on Jordan Travis in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick181 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
A premium they did not need to pay, Michael Barrett a notch or two before his time. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick220 Rnd6 Austin Stogner
Austin Stogner in No. 220 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick222 Rnd7 Darius Muasau
A conviction pick on Darius Muasau at slot 222 that the board grades a round light. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
