Draft Grade — Commanders

The Commanders did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

The Commanders went off the board in a big way for Barryn Sorrell, 76 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.

Getting Martinez where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Malaki Starks
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a two-high chess piece. Need was not the driver here.
Pick61 Rnd2 Harold Fannin Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 61 with a little surplus value in Harold Fannin Jr.. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick79 Rnd3 Tai Felton
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tai Felton. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick207 Rnd6 Damien Martinez
Taking Damien Martinez in pick 207 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick238 Rnd7 Barryn Sorrell
Barryn Sorrell in the 238th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick250 Rnd7 Mac McWilliams
Mac McWilliams at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
