Styles should have been long gone. The Commanders pounced, and earned a B-. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Commanders watched Sonny Styles slide 25 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The cost of the Wilson reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Terrel Bernard gives the group a proven body among the projects.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick49
Rnd2
Christen Miller
Nothing to complain about; Christen Miller went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick60
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
They will replay Sonny Styles at pick 60 for years; that is how good the value is. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick71
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
They let A.J. Haulcy come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick145
Rnd5
Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor at the 145th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick185
Rnd6
Thaddeus Dixon
Thaddeus Dixon at slot 185 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick194
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
No edge and no loss on Trey Zuhn III in pick No. 194; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick196
Rnd6
Jerry Wilson
Jerry Wilson at Round 6, Pick 17 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick223
Rnd7
Keyron Crawford
Keyron Crawford in the 223rd pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick234
Rnd7
Will Kacmarek
Will Kacmarek in the 234th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
