The phones sank the Commanders this weekend: D-. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Commanders shredded theirs for Akheem Mesidor. He came off 32 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. However the rest shakes out, Styles at that price is a win they earned.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Akheem Mesidor
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a premier pass rusher, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
Pick63
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
You do not let a linebacker like Sonny Styles reach pick No. 63 and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick71
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
A tidy little value on Keionte Scott in slot 71, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick93
Rnd3
Malik Muhammad
They read the board right and Malik Muhammad was the payoff at the 93rd overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick112
Rnd4
Tim Keenan III
Tim Keenan III in pick 112 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick145
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
They took Davison Igbinosun at par in No. 145, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick185
Rnd6
Bud Clark
Nothing to complain about; Bud Clark went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick196
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in Round 6, Pick 17 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick223
Rnd7
London Humphreys
A reach on London Humphreys in pick 223; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick246
Rnd7
Jaquaize Pettaway
Jaquaize Pettaway at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
