Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
D

FutureB+
The Commanders bled value on every deal, hence the D. The phones were a trap the Commanders kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
Reaching for Mesidor left real value on the table behind him. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They banked enough surplus on Thieneman to cover a lot of smaller sins. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick40
Rnd2
Akheem Mesidor
A real head-scratcher, Akheem Mesidor in pick No. 40 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick59
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman slid further than he should have, and slot 59 is lovely value for the safety. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick71
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
No edge and no loss on Lee Hunter in the 71st overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick101
Rnd4
Caden Curry
By-the-book stuff, Caden Curry at the 101st pick squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick145
Rnd5
DJ Campbell
They jumped the gun on DJ Campbell, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick185
Rnd6
Thaddeus Dixon
A tidy little value on Thaddeus Dixon in Round 6, Pick 6, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick196
Rnd6
De'Zhaun Stribling
The board had cheaper options than De'Zhaun Stribling at pick 196, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick223
Rnd7
Dijon Johnson
No drama and no debate, Dijon Johnson went about where he belonged in No. 223. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick238
Rnd7
Jaquaize Pettaway
They paid a round early for Jaquaize Pettaway in Round 7, Pick 22, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
