Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureA
A passer of the future in Maye, and a B, for the Commanders.

The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

The Jefferson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The Gillotte pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In the 5th overall pick they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in slot 34, and that is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick37 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
A reach on Chris Braswell in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Morgan at No. 43, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick66 Rnd3 Brian Thomas Jr.
A tidy bit of business in pick 66, where Brian Thomas Jr. graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick69 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at the 69th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick100 Rnd3 Bucky Irving
They let Bucky Irving come to them and pounced at pick No. 100. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick102 Rnd4 Cam Hart
No edge and no loss on Cam Hart in Round 4, Pick 2; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick111 Rnd4 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick139 Rnd5 Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil at No. 139 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick142 Rnd5 Jaheim Bell
Good price on Jaheim Bell in pick 142, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick148 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
This one needs a full-page explanation: Malachi Moore in Round 5, Pick 12, miles early. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick180 Rnd6 Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte is a better player than the 180th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick223 Rnd7 Jordan Jefferson
They reached into another round for Jordan Jefferson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
