Pj DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
C+
ValueD-

FutureB-
Some hits, some head-scratchers, and a C+ for the Texans. Nobody else had Thor Griffith anywhere near No. 79. The Texans did, by 237 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
The Mbow pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Omarion Hampton
In pick 25 they get a three-down runner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58
Rnd2
Clay Webb
Clay Webb at slot 58 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick79
Rnd3
Thor Griffith
Thor Griffith at Round 3, Pick 15 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick89
Rnd3
Charles Grant
No drama and no debate, Charles Grant went about where he belonged in the 89th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick166
Rnd5
Gunnar Helm
Gunnar Helm at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick236
Rnd7
Dante Trader Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Dante Trader Jr. at No. 236 squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick241
Rnd7
Marcus Mbow
Steal is underselling it; Marcus Mbow at pick No. 241 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
