Draft Grade — Saints
Overall

Flashes of a plan, unevenly executed. Saints: C-. It is the swing that defines the weekend: RJ Oben in pick 9, a good 220 spots before the room expected him.
Landing Turner that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
RJ Oben
In pick 9 they get a disruptor off the edge, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jack Sawyer
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jack Sawyer in Round 2, Pick 8. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick71
Rnd3
Luke Kandra
A big swing on Luke Kandra at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick93
Rnd3
Derrick Harmon
They will replay Derrick Harmon at slot 93 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick112
Rnd4
Ja'Quinden Jackson
Ja'Quinden Jackson at No. 112 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Pick131
Rnd4
Ethan Downs
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ethan Downs well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick184
Rnd6
KJ Jefferson
They talked themselves into KJ Jefferson at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick248
Rnd7
Will Howard
The board fumbled Will Howard all the way to pick No. 248, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
Pick254
Rnd7
Shemar Turner
Taking Shemar Turner in Round 7, Pick 38 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
