Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall C
ValueF NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Flashes of a plan, unevenly executed. Panthers: C.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Panthers spent slot 57 on Dayon Hayes, a name the board had a full 258 spots lower. For now it grades a C, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.

They banked enough surplus on Walker to cover a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

If JT Tuimoloau and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 JT Tuimoloau
In Round 1, Pick 8 they get a double-digit-sack hope, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick57 Rnd2 Dayon Hayes
They talked themselves into Dayon Hayes at the Round 2 slot, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick74 Rnd3 Shemar Stewart
They will replay Shemar Stewart at pick No. 74 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick111 Rnd4 Pat Bryant
They reached a country mile for Pat Bryant at pick 111, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick114 Rnd4 Jackson Slater
Jackson Slater at No. 114 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick140 Rnd5 Jalon Walker
A linebacker of that caliber at the 140th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick146 Rnd5 Makari Paige
Makari Paige in Round 5, Pick 8 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick163 Rnd5 Jacob Parrish
Circle this one: Jacob Parrish at slot 163 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick230 Rnd7 Khris Bogle
A real head-scratcher, Khris Bogle in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
