Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall C
ValueF NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Cowboys did enough to get by: C.

The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for Jam Griffin, 333 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A weekend of give and take that grades a C.

Landing Nolen that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Hit on Mason Graham and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Mason Graham
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value.
Pick44 Rnd2 Xzavier Henderson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Xzavier Henderson well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick76 Rnd3 Jam Griffin
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jam Griffin. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick149 Rnd5 Omari Thomas
A wild overpay on Omari Thomas in pick 149, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
They reached a country mile for Jamon Dumas-Johnson at pick No. 171, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick174 Rnd5 John Williams
John Williams in No. 174 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick204 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jaylen Reed at pick 204 is the proof. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick211 Rnd6 Walter Nolen
Circle this one: Walter Nolen at slot 211 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick239 Rnd7 RJ Harvey
RJ Harvey at pick No. 239 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Pick247 Rnd7 Will Sheppard
They reached into another round for Will Sheppard, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
