Draft Grade — Giants

FutureA+
Ward is the Giants' new face under center. Grade: B. The Giants spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: LeQuint Allen, the No. 141 name on the board, in pick No. 243. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Conner reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They have staked the next five years on Cam Ward, which is the only story that really matters here. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Cam Ward
In No. 12 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value.
Pick34
Rnd2
Luther Burden III
They barely believed it either: Luther Burden III still on the board at pick No. 34. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick62
Rnd2
David Bailey
They reached a country mile for David Bailey at the Round 2 slot, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
Pick65
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
Fair-plus on Zy Alexander, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick89
Rnd3
Malachi Moore
They paid sticker price for Malachi Moore in the 89th overall pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick104
Rnd4
Charles Grant
A reasonable price with a little left over, Charles Grant in No. 104. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick108
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
A premium they did not need to pay, Hollin Pierce a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick117
Rnd4
Logan Brown
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Logan Brown well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick127
Rnd4
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner in pick 127 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick134
Rnd4
Cody Simon
No edge and no loss on Cody Simon in pick No. 134; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick155
Rnd5
Kyren Lacy
Somehow Kyren Lacy was still sitting there in pick No. 155, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick179
Rnd6
Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant at pick 179 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick221
Rnd7
Raheim Sanders
Steal is underselling it; Raheim Sanders at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick243
Rnd7
LeQuint Allen
Taking LeQuint Allen in the 243rd pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick244
Rnd7
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, KeAndre Lambert-Smith in No. 244, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick248
Rnd7
Moliki Matavao
Moliki Matavao at Round 7, Pick 30 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
