The Jets cashed the board's mistake on Hardy: D+. When a board-topper like Daequan Hardy slides to No. 257, you do not overthink it, and the Jets did not.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for Milton III left real value on the table behind him.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. in pick No. 23 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick24
Rnd1
Tyler Guyton
In the 24th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick72
Rnd3
Patrick Paul
A clean, defensible pick in the 72nd pick with a little surplus value in Patrick Paul. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick112
Rnd4
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany slid further than he should have, and pick 112 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. The roster fit checks out.
Pick114
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
A reasonable price with a little left over, Isaac Guerendo in slot 114. It fills a real need, too.
Pick122
Rnd4
McKinnley Jackson
They took McKinnley Jackson at par in No. 122, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick144
Rnd5
Johnny Wilson
A quiet steal in the Round 5 slot: Johnny Wilson for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick146
Rnd5
James Williams
James Williams in Round 5, Pick 10 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick187
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
They liked Joe Milton III enough to skip the value, taking him in the 187th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick230
Rnd7
Josh Proctor
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Josh Proctor at slot 230. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick253
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio in No. 253 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick254
Rnd7
Joshua Cephus
A straight-up fair deal on Joshua Cephus at Round 7, Pick 34, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick257
Rnd7
Daequan Hardy
A cornerback of that caliber at pick 257 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
