Conviction outran the board for the Jets, and it cost them: F. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Jets spent No. 244 on Taulia Tagovailoa, a name most had 142 spots down the list. There is no dressing it up: a F.
Cowing at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. With safety and interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.
That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.
