Arcadiuz DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Patriots let Allen fall and pounced. Final grade: B. The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and CJ Allen fell into the Round 3 slot. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Every board in the league had Payton lower, and that gap is the story. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
KC Concepcion
In No. 31 they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick63
Rnd2
Gennings Dunker
Gennings Dunker slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 31 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick95
Rnd3
CJ Allen
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, CJ Allen in slot 95, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick125
Rnd4
Dametrious Crownover
They paid a round early for Dametrious Crownover in the 125th pick, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
Pick131
Rnd4
Eli Raridon
A reasonable price with a little left over, Eli Raridon in the 131st overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick169
Rnd5
Zane Durant
They paid sticker price for Zane Durant in pick No. 169, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick189
Rnd6
Matt Gulbin
Matt Gulbin at pick 189 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick200
Rnd6
Jalen Stroman
Jalen Stroman in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick207
Rnd6
Ephesians Prysock
Ephesians Prysock in No. 207 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick210
Rnd6
Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton at the 210th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jeff Caldwell
They robbed the room for Jeff Caldwell here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
