Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueA NeedB TradesC+ FutureB-
Grand theft in the 247th overall pick: the 49ers steal Dart and grade out a B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Jaxson Dart at Round 7, Pick 31 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

Every board in the league had Wilson lower, and that gap is the story. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In slot 11 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Armand Membou
Armand Membou in Round 2, Pick 11 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at the 75th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick100 Rnd3 Ashton Jeanty
Ashton Jeanty in No. 100 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jahdae Barron
They robbed the room for Jahdae Barron here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick138 Rnd4 Alfred Collins
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Alfred Collins in pick 138, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick147 Rnd5 Cam Ward
Steal is underselling it; Cam Ward at the 147th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick211 Rnd6 Miles Frazier
You do not let an offensive lineman like Miles Frazier reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick227 Rnd7 Wyatt Milum
They will replay Wyatt Milum at the 227th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick247 Rnd7 Jaxson Dart
They barely believed it either: Jaxson Dart still on the board at pick No. 247. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jake Majors
Jake Majors in pick 249 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick252 Rnd7 Trey Amos
Trey Amos at No. 252 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
