FutureB+
The Raiders cashed the board's mistake on McCaffrey: B+. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Luke McCaffrey got past him. The Raiders do not have to explain a thing at Round 5, Pick 30. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
They will need Capehart to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Roy Robertson-Harris deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Nate Wiggins
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get an island corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat at pick No. 44 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick77
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Haynes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick112
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in the 112th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick155
Rnd5
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick166
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
They barely believed it either: Luke McCaffrey still on the board at the 166th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick190
Rnd6
Christian Jones
They paid sticker price for Christian Jones in No. 190, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick195
Rnd6
Andrew Raym
A straight-up fair deal on Andrew Raym at slot 195, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick231
Rnd7
Blake Watson
A tidy little value on Blake Watson in slot 231, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick234
Rnd7
Zakhari Franklin
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zakhari Franklin in the 234th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick250
Rnd7
DeMonte Capehart
They reached a country mile for DeMonte Capehart at No. 250, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
