Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall
D+
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesF
FutureA+
The Vikings won the night they stopped Robinson from sliding. Grade: D+. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Vikings, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. A D+ that will need time and luck to look better.
On value alone, Robinson makes the weekend a net positive. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
It is not that Styles is a bad player; it is that the Vikings had louder needs to answer first. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In the 7th overall pick they get an enforcer at safety. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick11
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In slot 11 they get a three-down runner at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick23
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
Nice patience on Arvell Reese, who had no business lasting to No. 23. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick38
Rnd2
Avieon Terrell
Avieon Terrell in the 38th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick42
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 42 on Sonny Styles with edge rusher and tight end unsolved.
Pick48
Rnd2
Kayden McDonald
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kayden McDonald at the Round 2 slot is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
Pick73
Rnd3
Cade Klubnik
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cade Klubnik in the 73rd pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick97
Rnd3
Austin Barber
Austin Barber at No. 97 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick108
Rnd4
Whit Weeks
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Whit Weeks adds a linebacker and leaves edge rusher and tight end untouched.
Pick161
Rnd5
Parker Brailsford
Parker Brailsford in Round 5, Pick 21 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick200
Rnd6
Drew Allar
Steal is underselling it; Drew Allar at pick 200 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick226
Rnd7
Duce Robinson
Taking Duce Robinson in slot 226 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick257
Rnd7
Aidan Chiles
A straight-up fair deal on Aidan Chiles at pick No. 257, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
