The Vikings fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B. The rest of the league had time to spare on Dante Dowdell; the Vikings did not wait, grabbing him 43 spots ahead at the 241st pick.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Vikings indulged a want in Delane while a need in tight end and interior defensive lineman stayed open. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Mills falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a ballhawk on the outside. More want than need.
Pick21
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Mansoor Delane at cornerback with tight end and interior defensive lineman open.
Pick73
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
A straight-up fair deal on Deontae Lawson at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick76
Rnd3
Keon Sabb
They took Keon Sabb at par in pick 76, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick97
Rnd3
Diego Pavia
Diego Pavia in pick No. 97 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Boubacar Traore
They left a pile of value on the table to take Boubacar Traore this early at No. 112. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick161
Rnd5
Kevin Coleman Jr.
Kevin Coleman Jr. at pick 161 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick200
Rnd6
Monroe Mills
Monroe Mills in slot 200 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick226
Rnd7
Pat Coogan
Pat Coogan at pick No. 226 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick241
Rnd7
Dante Dowdell
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dante Dowdell well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
