The Vikings lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story.

The phones were a trap the Vikings kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They will answer for taking linebacker early while edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots went begging. If Kearney pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.

In the 18th pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. Need was not the driver here.

The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 40th overall pick on Sonny Styles with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots unsolved.
