Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Vikings: B-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Vikings reached some 60 spots for R.J. Mickens, and value like that does not grow back. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Giddens steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Job largely done: safety settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick36 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at pick 36 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick88 Rnd3 Charles Grant
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Charles Grant. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick97 Rnd3 Rylie Mills
Rylie Mills in the 97th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick119 Rnd4 Ty Robinson
Value said wait; Ty Robinson in slot 119 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick139 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They reached a country mile for Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 139, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick153 Rnd5 R.J. Mickens
They talked themselves into R.J. Mickens at Round 5, Pick 15, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick190 Rnd6 DJ Giddens
The board fumbled DJ Giddens all the way to Round 6, Pick 14, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick202 Rnd6 Thomas Fidone II
Thomas Fidone II at No. 202 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
