FutureD
The Vikings bet the future on Mendoza. The board says F. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Vikings spent the Round 3 slot on Parker Brailsford, a name most had 37 spots down the list.
Whatever Fernando Mendoza becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In pick No. 5 they get the arm they will build around, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36
Rnd2
Kayden McDonald
They did well to land Kayden McDonald in No. 36, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick43
Rnd2
Colton Hood
Colton Hood at the Round 2 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick74
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy in slot 74 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick97
Rnd3
Parker Brailsford
They reached a country mile for Parker Brailsford at Round 3, Pick 33, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick169
Rnd5
Le'Veon Moss
A real head-scratcher, Le'Veon Moss in the 169th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick206
Rnd6
Evan Stewart
A tidy little value on Evan Stewart in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick227
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Zuhn III at the 227th pick, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick237
Rnd7
Brett Norfleet
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Brett Norfleet well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
