Best value of the weekend goes to the Packers for Trapilo: B-. The rest of the league will want that one back. Ozzy Trapilo tumbling to the Packers in No. 136 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
Reaching for Roberts left real value on the table behind him. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Maxwell Hairston
In the 27th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick54
Rnd2
Jack Bech
A premium they did not need to pay, Jack Bech a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick87
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick124
Rnd4
Elijah Roberts
They talked themselves into Elijah Roberts at the 124th pick, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick136
Rnd4
Ozzy Trapilo
Taking Ozzy Trapilo in pick No. 136 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick159
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They reached into another round for Dont'e Thornton Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick176
Rnd5
Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard at Round 5, Pick 38 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick198
Rnd6
Tyler Batty
Tyler Batty at slot 198 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick237
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
The board had cheaper options than Teddye Buchanan at pick No. 237, and it noticed. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick250
Rnd7
Brant Kuithe
Brant Kuithe at slot 250 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
