Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Texans a B-.

Boards are made to be trusted, and the Texans shredded theirs for Frank Crum. He came off 73 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

They banked enough surplus on Hardy to cover a lot of smaller sins. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Byron Murphy II
In pick 23 they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Keon Coleman in slot 59, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick86 Rnd3 Kamren Kinchens
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 23, with Kamren Kinchens worth more than the price. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick122 Rnd4 Mohamed Kamara
They paid up for Mohamed Kamara at No. 122 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick126 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg in the 126th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick224 Rnd7 Daequan Hardy
Daequan Hardy in the 224th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick238 Rnd7 Tip Reiman
Tip Reiman is a better player than the 238th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick247 Rnd7 Frank Crum
Frank Crum at pick No. 247 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
