Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Sainristil should have been long gone. The Texans pounced, and earned a B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Mike Sainristil at the Round 4 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

The Steele reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Job largely done: running back settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Byron Murphy II
In pick No. 23 they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick59 Rnd2 Kamren Kinchens
Kamren Kinchens in Round 2, Pick 27 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick85 Rnd3 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in the 85th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick124 Rnd4 Mike Sainristil
A cornerback of that caliber at No. 124 is the definition of value, full stop. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick128 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
No drama and no debate, Tommy Eichenberg went about where he belonged in slot 128. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick161 Rnd5 Theo Johnson
They let Theo Johnson come to them and pounced at pick 161. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick236 Rnd7 Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini slid further than he should have, and the Round 7 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick245 Rnd7 Carson Steele
Carson Steele in the 245th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
