Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Texans spent the 245th pick on Mason Fairchild, a name most had 79 spots down the list.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jones. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Cooper DeJean
In No. 23 they get a press-man option on the boundary, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Pick59 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell at the 59th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick85 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
They reached a country mile for Leonard Taylor III at Round 3, Pick 22, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick124 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher in pick No. 124 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick128 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
They liked Cedric Gray enough to skip the value, taking him in the 128th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick161 Rnd5 Renardo Green
A quiet steal in pick 161: Renardo Green for less than the market said. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick236 Rnd7 Christian Jones
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Christian Jones in pick No. 236, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick245 Rnd7 Mason Fairchild
Value said wait; Mason Fairchild in No. 245 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
