Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Texans.

There is a lot to like until you notice quarterback is still a hole. The Texans never got to the one that mattered most. The bottom line is a respectable B.

Reaching for Nourzad left real value on the table behind him. Landing Melton that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dallas Turner at the Round 1 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick59 Rnd2 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 59th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick85 Rnd3 Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley slid further than he should have, and No. 85 is lovely value for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick124 Rnd4 Leonard Taylor III
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Leonard Taylor III at slot 124 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick128 Rnd4 Max Melton
Max Melton in the 128th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick161 Rnd5 Renardo Green
A quiet steal in Round 5, Pick 25: Renardo Green for less than the market said. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick236 Rnd7 Hunter Nourzad
Hunter Nourzad in pick 236 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick245 Rnd7 Jase McClellan
They read the board right and Jase McClellan was the payoff at pick No. 245. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
