The Texans let Loveland fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

Somebody in the 41st pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Colston Loveland, the No. 17 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain. Collins has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

The skill positions did well by the weekend.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
In pick No. 24 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick41 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland in No. 41 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick56 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Xavier Watts at slot 56. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick88 Rnd3 Jason Marshall Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Jason Marshall Jr. at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick120 Rnd4 Jay Higgins
They let Jay Higgins come to them and pounced at the 120th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick155 Rnd5 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in Round 5, Pick 27 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick216 Rnd7 Xavier Truss
Xavier Truss slipping to pick 216 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
