FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Texans, and a B to prove it. The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named running back, a need the Texans walked right past.
On value alone, Nwankpa makes the weekend a net positive. The cost of the Collins reach is exactly the players who went right after him. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Colston Loveland
In the 24th overall pick they get a seam-stretching tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Landon Jackson
Landon Jackson at slot 41 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick56
Rnd2
Xavier Nwankpa
Nice patience on Xavier Nwankpa, who had no business lasting to pick No. 56. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick88
Rnd3
Jason Marshall Jr.
They took Jason Marshall Jr. at par in No. 88, which is nothing to complain about. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick120
Rnd4
J.C. Davis
A tidy bit of business in pick 120, where J.C. Davis graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Pick155
Rnd5
Alfred Collins
This one needs a full-page explanation: Alfred Collins in Round 5, Pick 27, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick216
Rnd7
Traeshon Holden
The board had Traeshon Holden higher than the 216th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
