Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Texans: B.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Texans reached some 52 spots for Jaylon Carlies, and value like that does not grow back.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. The Colson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Job largely done: running back settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In the Round 1 slot they get juice off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in pick 59 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick85 Rnd3 Junior Colson
Junior Colson is a better player than Round 3, Pick 22 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick124 Rnd4 DJ James
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing DJ James in the 124th overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick128 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at the 128th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick161 Rnd5 Braelon Allen
A tidy little value on Braelon Allen in slot 161, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick236 Rnd7 Hunter Nourzad
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Hunter Nourzad. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick245 Rnd7 Jaylon Carlies
A wild overpay on Jaylon Carlies in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A minor itch, scratched.
