Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Larceny in pick 236 lands the Texans a B-, Jones and all.

Thirty-one other rooms let Christian Jones slide, and the Texans were the ones holding the card at the 236th pick. Highway robbery. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The Johnson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
In slot 23 they get a lockdown presence outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick59 Rnd2 Brandon Dorlus
Brandon Dorlus at the 59th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick85 Rnd3 Johnny Wilson
They read the board right and Johnny Wilson was the payoff at the 85th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick124 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg in Round 4, Pick 24 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick128 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Theo Johnson well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Pick161 Rnd5 Renardo Green
Value with a capital V on Renardo Green in pick 161, a genuine coup. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick236 Rnd7 Christian Jones
They will replay Christian Jones at pick No. 236 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick245 Rnd7 Jase McClellan
You do not let a running back like Jase McClellan reach No. 245 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
