Best value of the weekend goes to the Texans for Berger: B-. You build a draft on nights like this. Jalen Berger had no business being available in Round 7, Pick 19, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The cost of the Sinnott reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Terrion Arnold
In the 23rd pick they get a potential shutdown corner. More want than need.
Pick59
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
A tidy bit of business in No. 59, where Kris Jenkins graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick85
Rnd3
Junior Colson
A slide stopped in pick No. 85, with Junior Colson worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick123
Rnd4
James Williams
They went early on James Williams in Round 4, Pick 23, and the value did not follow. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick127
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
They paid up for Ben Sinnott at slot 127 when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick164
Rnd5
Grayson Murphy
They paid sticker price for Grayson Murphy in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick239
Rnd7
Jalen Berger
They will replay Jalen Berger at the 239th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick248
Rnd7
Aaron Frost
Aaron Frost in pick 248 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
