Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans robbed the room for Allar. Final grade: B-. The board owed the Texans one, and it paid up: Drew Allar, the No. 73 name on the board, sitting there at pick 120 like a gift left on the doorstep. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Denzel Burke
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a press-man option on the boundary. More want than need.
Pick41
Rnd2
Landon Jackson
A tidy bit of business in pick 41, where Landon Jackson graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick56
Rnd2
Aeneas Peebles
A straight-up fair deal on Aeneas Peebles at the 56th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick88
Rnd3
Jonah Monheim
They took Jonah Monheim at par in the 88th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick120
Rnd4
Drew Allar
Circle this one: Drew Allar at pick No. 120 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick155
Rnd5
Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick216
Rnd7
Eugene Asante
They paid sticker price for Eugene Asante in slot 216, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
