The steal of the weekend belongs to the Steelers and Rice: B-. You build a draft on nights like this. Brenden Rice had no business being available in the 119th pick, and the Steelers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
It is not that Fisher is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The cost of the Frazier reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 4 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In No. 20 they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick51
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
They went early on Zach Frazier in the 51st overall pick, and the value did not follow. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick84
Rnd3
Max Melton
Max Melton is a better player than pick No. 84 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick110
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
A surprising call. With quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent the 110th pick on Blake Fisher, an offensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick119
Rnd4
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in Round 4, Pick 19 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick139
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tommy Eichenberg. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick152
Rnd5
Nehemiah Pritchett
Nehemiah Pritchett slipping to slot 152 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick178
Rnd6
AJ Barner
Nothing to complain about; AJ Barner went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
