Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall C+
ValueD+ NeedC+ TradesB- FutureB-
Some hits, some head-scratchers, and a C+ for the Bengals.

The Elijah Roberts pick is the one that will follow the Bengals into the fall. They took him 91 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.

The Williams value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. It is not that Burch is a bad player; it is that the Bengals had louder needs to answer first. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Hit on Nic Scourton and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Nic Scourton
A conviction pick on Nic Scourton at No. 17 that the board grades a round light. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick49 Rnd2 Jordan Burch
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jordan Burch adds an edge rusher and leaves tight end, interior defensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Pick81 Rnd3 Elijah Roberts
They bypassed pressing needs at tight end, interior defensive lineman and other spots to take Elijah Roberts, an edge rusher that was not the priority.
Pick118 Rnd4 Jacob Parrish
A straight-up fair deal on Jacob Parrish at the 118th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick154 Rnd5 Savion Williams
Savion Williams in the 154th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick195 Rnd6 Ajani Cornelius
You do not let an offensive lineman like Ajani Cornelius reach pick 195 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
