Jimmyneutron571 DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
C+
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Some hits, some head-scratchers, and a C+ for the 49ers. There is reaching, and then there is Gino Garcia at pick 189. The 49ers jumped the board by 92 and dared it to prove them wrong. It lands right in the middle: a C+, no more, no less.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Edwards. The Burnip pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Princely Umanmielen
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a premier pass rusher, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Malaki Starks in the 43rd overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jared Wilson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick99
Rnd3
James Burnip
Of all the spots to shop, they chose specialist. James Burnip in the Round 3 slot leaves quarterback for later.
Pick112
Rnd4
Tai Felton
Tai Felton in No. 112 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138
Rnd4
Howard Cross III
Howard Cross III at pick No. 138 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick139
Rnd4
Tommi Hill
They went early on Tommi Hill in Round 4, Pick 38, and the value did not follow. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick148
Rnd5
Anthony Belton
Steal is underselling it; Anthony Belton at the 148th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick189
Rnd6
Gino Garcia
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Gino Garcia well ahead of where he belonged. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick228
Rnd7
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
A tidy bit of business in pick 228, where Jamon Dumas-Johnson graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick232
Rnd7
Moliki Matavao
Moliki Matavao in slot 232 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick255
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
You do not let a running back like Donovan Edwards reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
