Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall
C+
ValueC
NeedB
TradesC-
FutureB-
A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Broncos get a C+. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Broncos took Cam Skattebo at the 51st overall pick, roughly 48 spots before his name belonged.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
If Nick Emmanwori and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In pick 30 they get a centerfielder for the defense at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Pick51
Rnd2
Cam Skattebo
They reached a country mile for Cam Skattebo at pick No. 51, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick62
Rnd2
Carson Schwesinger
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Carson Schwesinger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick85
Rnd3
Terrance Ferguson
A real head-scratcher, Terrance Ferguson in the 85th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick122
Rnd4
Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant at the 122nd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick132
Rnd4
Nick Nash
Nick Nash in Round 4, Pick 30 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick170
Rnd5
Jaydon Blue
No edge and no loss on Jaydon Blue in Round 5, Pick 32; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick177
Rnd6
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in the 177th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick191
Rnd6
Addison West
Addison West at pick No. 191 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick197
Rnd6
Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson in slot 197 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
