Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
A-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesA+
FutureA-
The Chargers won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: A-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Chargers reached some 43 spots for Dallin Holker, and value like that does not grow back.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Malik Nabers
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick24
Rnd1
Terrion Arnold
Fair-plus on Terrion Arnold, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick33
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
Tyler Nubin at No. 33 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick37
Rnd2
Ladd McConkey
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ladd McConkey. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick45
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins in pick No. 45 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick48
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
They went early on Edgerrin Cooper in slot 48, and the value did not follow. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick65
Rnd3
Blake Corum
Blake Corum in pick No. 65 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick95
Rnd3
Dallin Holker
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dallin Holker. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick132
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Value said wait; Braelon Allen in Round 4, Pick 32 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
