Thrash should have been long gone. The 49ers pounced, and earned a B.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jamari Thrash, the No. 140 name on the board, stolen at Round 6, Pick 2. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

The cost of the Johnson Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Adding Niko Lalos by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
In No. 27 they get a No. 1 receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59 Rnd2 Josh Newton
Josh Newton at slot 59 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick90 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zak Zinter in the Round 3 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick98 Rnd3 Blake Fisher
By-the-book stuff, Blake Fisher at the 98th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick127 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
They took Ben Sinnott at par in the 127th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick177 Rnd6 Jamari Thrash
Circle this one: Jamari Thrash at Round 6, Pick 2 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick205 Rnd6 Jaden Hicks
They robbed the room for Jaden Hicks here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick213 Rnd6 Ben Bywater
Good price on Ben Bywater in pick No. 213, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
Pick248 Rnd7 Montrell Johnson Jr.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Montrell Johnson Jr. this early at slot 248. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
