0987 DRAFTING FOR THEJets
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Jets
Overall
B

FutureB-
The Jets finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B. The search is over. The Jets handed the keys to Arch Manning, and the whole operation now runs on his development. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Payton has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Arch Manning
In pick No. 4 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Nyck Harbor
Fair-plus on Nyck Harbor, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick104
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at Round 4, Pick 2 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick139
Rnd5
Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton in the 139th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick182
Rnd6
Princewill Umanmielen
Princewill Umanmielen at the 182nd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick197
Rnd6
J.Michael Sturdivant
No edge and no loss on J.Michael Sturdivant in No. 197; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick209
Rnd6
James Williams
James Williams at the Round 6 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick210
Rnd6
Riley Mahlman
Riley Mahlman in pick 210 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Pick251
Rnd7
Gentry Williams
Gentry Williams at the 251st overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick253
Rnd7
Dasan McCullough
They went early on Dasan McCullough in Round 7, Pick 37, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
